Congressional Candidate Bill O’Neill Takes Out Nominating Petitions

Painesville, OH — November 24, 2025

Today, retired Supreme Court Justice Bill O’Neill of Chagrin Falls took out nominating petitions to run for Congress in Ohio’s 14th District, representing Lake, Ashtabula, Geauga, Portage, Trumbull, and Mahoning counties.

“I simply cannot sit by and watch the chaos that is currently masquerading as government in Washington. It is time for David Joyce to answer for his votes in support of President Trump’s chaos. That will start with his vote to strip $800-billion from Medicaid to pay for tax breaks for billionaires; and include his deafening silence when President Trump illegally sent Ohio National Guard troops to Washington to be used against American citizens.”

The people of this district deserve steady and responsible leadership, not the dysfunction, excuses, and political games that have sadly become the norm. David Joyce must be held accountable for his non-stop support of President Trump. Grocery prices are out of control, health care is unaffordable for many, and violations of the US Constitution have become routine.

Justice O’Neill is a Vietnam Veteran, a Bronze Star recipient, and a member of the Ohio Military Hall of Fame. During law school, he served as the Commanding Officer of the Ohio National Guard in Painesville.

Justice O’Neill served 10 years on the Court of Appeals in Warren and was elected to the Supreme Court of Ohio in 2012 on the promise to take “no money from nobody”. He plans to do the same this year. “People distrust government because they believe it is bought and sold, and they are right. It is time we take our government back.”

Justice O’Neill, 78, is a graduate of Ohio University, Cleveland State Law School, and Huron School of Nursing. He is licensed in Ohio as a Registered Nurse and an attorney at law. He is widowed and has four grown children, Shawn, Katie, Tiffany, and Brandon. He lives with his rescue dog Shadow in Chagrin Falls.
